The one award ceremony that the entire world and especially the music industry looks forward to are the Grammys. This year marks the 61st Annual Grammy Awards and it’s raining glamour. Right from the red carpet to the host and the performances, everything was all about the bling! So, ICYMI, here is everything you need to know about the award ceremony to get you up to speed. Scroll for all the deets!

The Host

The extremely talented and 15-time Grammy winner, Alicia Keys hosted the Grammy Awards this year.

The Powerhouse Start To The Show

The ceremony kicked off with the stage packed with stars like Michelle Obama, Jada Pinkett Smith, Lady Gaga, JLo & the host Alicia Keys. They spoke about how music important music is and how it helped them shape who they are. But the biggest cheer was given to our very own Michelle Obama! She said,

From the Motown Records I wore out on the South side, to the ‘who run the world‘ songs that fueled me through this last decade, music has always helped me tell my story, and I know that’s true for everybody here. Whether we like country or rap or rock, music helps us share ourselves. Our dignity and its sorrows, our hopes and joys, it allows us to hear one another, to invite each other in. Music shows us that all of it matters. Every story within every voice, every note within every song. Is that right, ladies?

The Big Wins

The Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year were won by the very well-deserved Childish Gambino for This Is America. The Album Of The Year was awarded to Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves, Best New Artist was given to Dua Lipa and the posthumous award won by Chriss Cornell for “When Bad Does Good” was received by his children, Toni & Christopher Cornell Jr.

The Performances That Touched Our Hearts

The event started off by a power-packed performance by Camila Cabello on Havana with special appearances by Ricky Martin and J Balvin, Miley Cyrus with Shawn Mendes performed on In My Blood and a moving one by Kacey Musgraves. And there were other memorable performances by Post Malone with Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Alicia Keys who played two pianos at once while she performed and the one that melted us was the Aretha Franklin tribute sung by Andra Day, Fantasia and Yolanda Adams. It legit gave us goosebumps.

BTS‘ Reaction To Dolly Parton‘s Performance

Man, Dolly Parton can sing, aye? Her performance with Miley Cyrus and many others was so awesome, that BTS couldn’t help but groove to it!

Diana Ross‘ 9-Year-Old Grandson Was The Cutest

On Diana’s 75th birthday, Alicia Keys introduced her 9-year-old grandson, Raif-Henok Emmanuel Kendrick by calling him a “distinguished little guy” on which he replied, “Did she say little guy? I’m almost 4 foot 9.” He introduced his “grandmommy” by saying,

She is amazing and young people like me can look up to her for her independence, confidence and her willingness to be her unique self. She has shown the whole world that nothing is beyond our reach.

How cute is he?

All of us really enjoyed watching this musical feast! Now that you’re all caught up, tell us your favourite part of the show in the comments below!
