New Delhi: Religious leader Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati on Wednesday said that a ceremony to mark the start of construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya will take place on February 21, even if those gathering there have to “face bullets”.
The date for the planned ceremony, akin to a ‘shilanyas’, was announced at the end of a three-day congregation of seers at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.
The announcement comes a day after the Centre filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking permission to transfer “surplus” land adjacent to the disputed Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid site to its original owners.
The ‘dharamadesh’ (edict) issued by the Dwarka Peeth Shankaracharya after the ‘Dharam Sansad’ urged Hindus to reach Ayodhya carrying four bricks each.
The planned ceremony is being called ‘Ishtika Nyas’, or the laying of bricks.
The Shankaracharya said the sadhus will begin their march to Ayodhya from Prayagraj after Basant Panchami, which falls on February 10.
The Shankaracharya criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government for not bringing legislation to enable the construction of the temple, even though it had an absolute majority in the Lok Sabha.

London: People with autism can recognise complex emotions such as regret and relief in fellow humans, shows a research that breaks a persistent stereotype that people with mental, emotional and behavioural disorders lack empathy and cannot understand emotion.
Psychologists from the University of Kent in Britain used eye-tracking technology to monitor the adults as they read stories in which a character made a decision and then experienced a positive or negative outcome.
They found that adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) were quickly able to think about how things might have turned out differently (either better or worse than reality) and then judge whether the story character would regret or get relief which is known as counterfactual emotions.
The findings, published in the journal Autism Research, demonstrated that they were just as good at recognizing regret emotions in the character as adults without the condition and even better at computing relief.
“We have shown that contrary to previous research that has highlighted the difficulties adults with autism experience with empathy and perspective-taking, people with autism possess previously overlooked strengths in processing emotions,” said lead author Heather Ferguson, a Professor from the varsity.

Is it just me or are we actually experiencing a real winter season this year? Although I’ve been enjoying the chilly weather, my skin has been facing a ton of dryness recently. Whilst the right primer can definitely help, I decided to do my research and figure out the best foundations for winter skin. Read on to see them all!
1. Smashbox Studio Skin 15 Hour Wear Hydrating Foundation
Infused with hyaluronic acid, this oil-free foundation is one of the most comfortable ones to wear during this season. Not only does it deliver a fresh and natural finish, but also doesn’t cake, oxidise or cause breakouts. Plus, it comes in an incredible range of 40 shades!
2. Make Up For Ever Water Blend Face & Body Foundation
When I came across this foundation, I immediately added a bottle to my shopping cart. Made up of 80% of water, this product is as lightweight as it gets. Since it is easily buildable, you can layer on more to get the amount of coverage you desire.
3. Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick
I know what you are thinking… but this stick foundation won’t emphasise the dry patches on your face. Instead, it targets parched skin to keep it healthy and moisturised, whilst providing medium to full coverage.
4. Chanel Vitalumière
In the mood to splurge? Opt for this luxurious formula. It goes on weightlessly to deliver a hydrated and radiant finish that is hard to match up to.
5. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint
Although these tints come in limited shades, they do a fabulous job on dealing with dryness. Since they too are equipped with hyaluronic acid, they leave behind a moisturised and plump complexion.
6. Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation
This water-infused foundation is a dream to work with. Apart from seamlessly sinking into skin, it also gives off a soft-focus, blurring effect that eliminates the need for any filters. What more could a girl ask for?
7. MAC Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation
I saved the best for last. This fluid foundation keeps skin nourished, protects from UV rays and delivers a flawless finish. You can wear it all day without worrying about it streaking, fading or changing colour.
Have you tried any of these out before? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Rosa Salazar, after the Maze Runner series and her stint in Insurgent is all set to hypnotise us yet again with her moves in Alita: Battle Angel. Let’s go through excerpts from her recent interview about the film, her character and much more.
Q: How did you first hear about this project and when did you get involved?
A: It was about two years ago. My agent said, ‘There’s this movie called Alita Battle Angel. Would you like to audition for Robert Rodriguez?’ I kind of knew a little bit about it because years ago, James Cameron had talked about making it. I read the script and it was amazing. And I really wanted to go out for it.
Q: How long after you first auditioned did you find out you had the part?
A: It was a while. I went away to shoot Maze Runner 3. And then I came back and still hadn’t heard anything. I knew Robert. I had a couple of meetings with him and before I even knew I was going to test for it, he was helping me with a short film that I wrote. So, it took a while… I mean, it took so long that we forged a friendship and were working on a completely other short films! All told, it took about four months.
Q: What was it about Alita that appealed to you?
A: Well, a few things. Robert Rodriguez, who is Latino, and who I’ve wanted to work with for years. He’s such an iconic filmmaker because he can make a film out of nothing. Like with El Mariachi. And I really love Desperado. That was the first thing I saw of his. With my mom. I was a young girl and I just fell in love with it. It was a strong emotional story, a love story with explosions and guts and guns and bar shootouts. I just really like Robert’s cinematic values. And then, of course, there’s James Cameron.
Q: Oh yes.
A: Yeah, he’s made a couple of movies… And, like Robert, he creates stories with strong, well-rounded female characters. They’ve both been doing it for years. And everything starts with the writing. The Alita script was written for the reader – it’s like something that you could pick up and read in your downtime. Jim will put in these little things that’ll never be shot. They’re not geared for the movie, they’re just for the reader.
Q: Like what?
A: It’s things like ‘Alita holds the Damascus blade for the first time and like the ancient Samurai say, the blade has chosen her.’ That has nothing to do with what they’re shooting, or the direction or anything, it’s just so you can be fully immersed in the story. And it makes you feel things and then you know you’ve got something special. Plus, another big thing for me is that I had been doing these big movies and this felt like graduation for me. I mean, I’ve done stunts. I’ve done wire work. I’ve fallen down. I’ve jumped off stuff. And I’ve done major sequences. In the Maze Runner films, there are some crazy sequences that I did for the second one and the third one. Riding around in a car with a big gun popping through the sunroof. All of that was a great training ground for Alita and I really wanted to test my skills in this big movie.
Q: Did you do any research or prep?
A: I am such a big fan of Andy Serkis that I watched every single behind the scenes featurette a long time ago on DVD. And then I was watching Benedict Cumberbatch as Smog, and a lot of the Apes movies which were done by Weta Digital Effects who also did Alita. I talked to the technician, Paul Alvarez, who was the one hands-on working on the boom and fixing the helmet and making sure I have the dots on correctly. He enlightened me so much to the process and now I go to Manhattan Beach Studios just so I can shadow Jim as a director of performance capture, because that’s where I think it gets really, really technical and interesting because I’m dealing with this set of things that I have to incorporate with the motion capture, but Jim’s dealing with 75 million other things that he has to incorporate to make it work. Performance capture is so interesting. You can be in a scene with someone, say, a love scene that I have with Keean and really it all melts away. You hear actors say that and you’re like ‘Okay, you’re wearing a boom on your head, it’s five pounds. Like, how does that melt away?’ But it just does. The shock value melts away when you’re in those scenes and you’re really focused and on it.
Q: It sounds like you’re already prepping to one day direct a motion capture film.
A: Yeah, I secretly am. I’m eager to learn and I feel like Robert and Jim respond to that. They want to be mentors. There are some people in this business that don’t and that’s perfectly fine. But Robert and Jim do. They are really generous with their wisdom.
Q: Let’s talk a little about Alita, the character. Tell us in your own words who she is.
A: Alita is… just a regular girl! In the same way that all of the mo-cap stuff kind of bleeds out when you’re in it, Alita is a regular girl who happens to be made of cybernetic parts and has an insane, traumatic history. Alita’s just like me. She has a whole palette of emotions.
She’s insecure. She’s brave. She’s courageous. She’s strong. She’s curious and she’s defiant. She’s powerful and she’s weak. She has a real soul and I think that she bares it all the time. She doesn’t really hold anything back. She doesn’t suffer fools. She doesn’t pull punches. But she doesn’t actually know who she is. She’s learning everything for the first time. Now that she’s been reawakened.
Q: So, it’s really about a girl working out who she is and her place in the world.
A: Yeah, that’s it. Her place in the world, but also how she can help. Because there’s a moment in the movie where, spoiler alert, she’s fine to just be there. She’s thinking, ‘I could live here. I could take it.’ She’s totally fine to settle. But who she is, I think, very compelling because, ultimately, she doesn’t settle. Integrity is often very inconvenient.
Q: So emotionally, she’s human. But in terms of physicality, did you have to play her slightly…
A: No. Although I had practised and practised with a friend who helps me read lines. And I was very stiff, very Ex Machina. I had all of these movements, all these intricate finger twitches and whatever. As you do. And right before I went in to audition, I suddenly thought, ‘Hey, wait a second. She’s not a robot, she’s a cyborg….’ Her body was created by Ido [Christoph Waltz] who is a cybernetic surgeon, so he knows what he’s doing. She doesn’t move in a stiff way. In fact, the way she moves is very cat-like. Even smoother than a normal person. Not only is she not stiff or robotic, but her body movements are also very fluid.
Q: When actors do performance capture, often the character they’re playing doesn’t look anything like them. But with Alita there seems to be a reasonable amount of you in the character.
A: Yeah. It’s an anime version of myself.
Q: So how is that?
A: It’s super cool! And it was always the plan, that whatever actress was going to inhabit the role, it was going to be her performance and her face and her features. More and more as they edit the film and draw the film, every time I see it, it looks more like me. Which is eerie. And wonderful. Because if you’re Benedict Cumberbatch playing Smaug, you’re going see a 60-foot tall dragon. It’s cool but you’re probably not going to feel attached to it. It’s like, ‘that’s over there’. But when I was playing Alita, we were one and the same. And they used a lot of my real face and the real scars and divots and muscle pulls and lines and creases and imperfections to look like me.
Q: Did you have to learn a lot of fighting skills?
A: Yeah. Training almost killed me. When I walked in there, I was made out of croissants. I was writing my short film. And writers don’t eat well. So, I was really out of shape. I mean, I was thin, but I had no endurance, no core. I trained with Keith Hirabayashi for months and months and months. And I changed to a plant-based diet and it was very hard. I’d never changed my diet in that way before.
Q: Does it feel almost like you have kind of a different body?
A: Well, now I’m vegan. Because James Cameron convinced me to be vegan and he’s right. Plant-based diet. So, yeah, I am constantly finding that my body is very different. But you feel stronger, more capable. And it’s not just me. I have to say there are nine women that bring Alita to life. Whenever we reach my physical capabilities or abilities, another person takes over who’s been doing this for life. So you have many, many martial artists. You have contortionists. You have rollerbladers. You have different kinds of rollerbladers, trick rollerbladers. And then you have me doing all the acting when they’re recording the bodily info.
Q: Let’s talk about a couple of your fellow cast members. How was working with Christoph Waltz – was it intimidating at all, working with someone so experienced and acclaimed?
A: I don’t know why, but I wasn’t intimidated. Although he has a very strong presence. I started out being extremely excited and that never dipped. The first day I met him, he was doing some camera tests and I was peeking around the curtain, trying to catch him in his natural state. He’s just so graceful and very powerful and centred. He’s very present and he looks you right in the eye. He’s not selfish with his talent. He’s there with you and you’re in good hands. Also, he’s very funny. And that was really great to be around. He doesn’t suffer fools though, you know what I mean? He’s going to tell you exactly what’s up. It’s such an honor to work with him. I feel like I crossed something off my bucket list.

Financially generous relationships with others will inspire and impact your future in the office. Some of you may be able to achieve your goals but for the consolidated patterns of life achievements to flow in your life you need to donate rice to a lady over the next three days to remove blocks.
All your senses are tuned into your relationships at work and you are reconciling to being dominated. Work issues will be better than the results in the past but there are many things that need to be looked into. Honesty and professionalism will continue through your experiences but at the end of the day there could be some stress.

Apart from Ramgarh, the counting of votes is taking place in Haryana’s Jind. The results of the bypolls are crucial for both the BJP and the Congress.
Commenting on the victory, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said that it will encourage the party ahead of Lok Sabha elections.

A high voter turnout was recorded in Jind and Ramgarh assembly constituencies on Monday.
In the Jind assembly by-election, the turnout was recorded at over 70 per cent at 5 PM. The voter turnout in Ramgarh was 78.9 %. The election was postponed following the death of BSP candidate Laxman Singh in Ramgarh.
All four major contenders in Jind — the ruling BJP, Congress, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), which was formed after a split in the INLD — have pulled out all the stops for a victory, which could prove to be a morale booster for the rank and file.

New Delhi: In an interesting turn of events the government has rejected Indian Police Service officer Alok Verma’s resignation from service. Alok Verma was the director of the Central Bureau of Investigation. Earlier this month, he was shunted out from the post.
In protest, Alok Verma resigned from IPS. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs has rejected his resignation effectively asking him to rejoin work. But for a day — today is the date Alok Verma would have retired from service.
Alok Verma has been asked to rejoin work as the director general of fire services, civil defence and home guards — a post Alok Verma was transferred to after being removed from the post of CBI director.
Alok Verma was transferred out of the Central Bureau of Investigation after a long-lasting controversy that even involved the Supreme Court.
Last year, the CBI hit headlines not for solving an incredible crime but for an inter-agency feud that involved its top two officers — director Alok Verma and his No. 2, special director Rakesh Asthana.
The Alok Verma-led CBI booked Rakesh Asthana in a case of corruption. Rakesh Asthana, in turn, wrote to the government, accusing CBI chief Alok Verma of taking bribes.
The Alok Verma-Rakesh Asthana feud labelled CBI vs CBI by the media, forced the government to step in. The Narendra Modi government sent the warring CBI officers on forced leave.
However, Alok Verma challenged this in the Supreme Court, contending that the government had no authority to take action against him.
Alok Verma argued that under Indian law, only a select committee that comprises of the Prime Minister of India, the Chief Justice of India (or his nominee) and the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha (or the leader of the single largest opposition party in Lok Sabha) could take a call on the fate a CBI director.
The Supreme Court agreed with this and set aside the government order that had sent Alok Verma on forced leave.

4th ODI, India vs New Zealand: It was a walk in the park for the New Zealand batsmen in the second innings chasing an under-par score of 93. Guptill started the innings with a six and followed that up with two consecutive more boundaries. He was dismissed in the 4th ball of the first over. India got the wicket of Kane Williamson but it was just a mere consolation as Henry Nicholls and Ross Taylor did a professional job and finished off the game.
“I don’t think we expected this much. But guys bowled well. It was nice to bowl them out for 90 odd. It was just one of those days. At the same time, a lot of credit to the guys for the areas they bowled in, especially Trent. The ball was swinging. The surface we explored really well with the ball and then chased down well. Today was an outstanding performance, but it will be a different surface in Wellington. Different challenge. It was great to have a win today. A nice little chase,” says Kane Williamson at the post-match presentation.
Asked to bat, India had a horrible start and none of the middle order batsmen failed to make the most of the opportunity. Trent Boult took a fifer with Colin de Grandhomme picking three to leave India in tatters.
— BLACKCAPS (@BLACKCAPS) January 31, 2019
Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal stitched a stand worth 25 runs – highest in the Indian inning – to ensure somewhat respectable total. Once Kuldeep went, Khaleel, coming in for Mohammed Shami perished too. India were eventually bowled out for 92 runs for their seventh lowest ODI total and second smallest against New Zealand.
Rohit Sharma in the post-match ceremony: “One of our worst performances with the bat for a long time. Something we didn’t expect. You got to give credit to the NZ bowlers. It was a magnificent effort. Something to learn for us. At times, you need to apply pressure. We need to blame ourselves for it. Thing were looking good at that stage. It was about applying ourselves. Once you get in, things will start to look easier. We played some bad shots as well. It’s always challenging when the ball is swinging. Having a good run in the limited formats for a number of series. Everyone knows what went wrong. There will be times when it swings and we need to deal with it. When you are playing for your country, you try to give your best. We need to keep ticking the boxes.”

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that OnePlus is taking a jibe at Apple’s iPhones. iPhones have been ruling the premium smartphone market, both in India as well as the world. Of late, iPhones have seen their prices going up, with the iPhone XS debuting in India at a price of Rs 99,900. This has made iPhones out of reach for a major number of consumers.
OnePlus had about 36% market share in the quarter whereas Apple and Samsung market share in the segment in India stood at 30% and 26% respectively.
OnePlus have enjoyed a great deal of success as a result of its innovative features and affordable pricing, which will appeal to the buyers in India. Whereas Apple’s latest iPhone comes with way expensive pricing but similar features with Android flagships.

I don’t really need to say it in writing that the internet is a weird place, but I’m going to do it anyway. Each day, when you go onto one of your social media apps, you are bound to find something amusing. Recently, I found yet another Instagram account that left me shook.
Celebrities are photographed everywhere they go, to add to that they now put up their own pictures on social media too. But what I figured from hours of scrolling on Instagram is that there is this one celebrity friend that everyone just keeps cropping out of their Instagram pictures. No, I don’t mean Ayan Mukerji when he poses with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. He’s the one who makes it to the pictures. This dude of the internet is that person who is friends with legit every celebrity in Bollywood. Turns out, he is there at every party, event or even sleepovers they have and it’s shocking that nobody has spotted him yet. But worry not because now he’s putting all the “completely authentic pictures” from where he was cropped out on this Instagram account he has created called the Unseen Friend. It is blasphemy that the celebs and media have cropped him out leaving him unseen for so long.
Don’t believe me?
Check it out:
You can see how way back he goes with B-town stars. This is a #tbt picture to when Ash-Abhi were just getting close to each other.
Before Nick Jonas, there was the Unseen BFF.
He’s even good friends with the younger lot of starlets.
I mean, honestly being friends with actors can get quite exhausting.
He even had a cameo in Salman Khan starrer Tiger Zinda Hai
He’s closely worked with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan as well.
As I said, he’s omnipresent.
This is such a cute picture, I wonder why Banita Sandhu cropped him out.
Whoa! He’s really thick with the star kids too. Much like the Karan Johar that nobody has seen.
We all hate it when the internet stops working.
Another cameo in Lust Stories, the part directed by Anurag Kashyap. Guess this didn’t make the cut though.
He had even photobombed this viral picture of Madhavan.
He’s Kareena Kapoor Khan’s favourite hype person too.
This lucky dude went shopping with Alia and Ranbir.
He was even invited for the #DeepVeer wedding and conducted some important rituals.
Third-wheeling is so 2000-and-late. It’s all about fifth-wheeling these days.
Well… now you know where you can get all the inside gossip that you need! The unseen friend is that insider you’ve been waiting for.
You’re welcome, B-town fans.
(PS: I know these are Photoshopped. Relax)

Shah Rukh Khan is one of the most successful and famous Bollywood stars across the globe. He has been in the industry for over 25 years and has done films which have received a lot of acclaim from the critics and love from the audience too. However, there have been a few box-office failures also in his career, the latest one being Zero. Like any other actor, failure and not delivering a good performance to the audience affects the Superstar too. But unlike most actors, failures don’t make him stick to the tried and tested kind of scripts. Shah Rukh’s film choices have always been diverse.
In a recent interview with Deccan Chronicle, SRK opened up about taking risks and his fears as an actor. The actor revealed, he never wants to do regular films that are made in 40 days. Films that are easy to make and do well at the box-office and he can buy himself a car and be happy. He revealed how just the thought of doing boring films scares him.
We hope SRK never stops trying to make remarkable films and that the next project he does connects with the audience as well!

Amitabh Bachchan Thanked His Brahmastra Co-Star Ranbir Kapoor And The Message Will Keep You Guessing
Amitabh Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor have been working together for Ayan Mukerji‘s fantasy superhero film, Brahmastra. We’ve had many glimpses of them prepping for the film before but Big B’s latest post has left us puzzled. Yes, Amitabh took to Instagram and shared a photo with the Barfi actor thanking him for the ‘Elixir of life’.
Take a look:
Curiouser and curiouser!
The entire caption from his post read, “Thank you Ranbir Kapoor for giving me the elixir of LIFE!
Still buzzing Buddy… Ranbir Kapoor … संसार का जीवन रूपी अमृत भेंट , जो आज आपने मुझे दिय, इसके लिए हृदय से आभार । अभी तक शरीर उत्तेजित , उत्कृष्ट ओर उजागर बना हुआ है ।”
Your guess is as good as ours at this point and the message has definitely left us intrigued!
Brahmastra is the first film where Ranbir and AB will be seen sharing screen space and has fans excited already with the little sneak peeks and on-location photos. The movie which also stars Alia Bhatt and Mouni Roy, is expected to be a trilogy and I can’t wait for this one, what about you?

Love – One small word, a world of emotions and so many epic stories. Bollywood has managed to create many eternal on-screen love sagas that have left a long-lasting impact on the audience. We’ve all watched the larger than life stories that have made us swoon and wish they never ended. What makes these films such big hits, and also our favourites, are the remarkable characters that bring the screenplay to life. What a lot of these movies also do is leave you with an image or a checklist of the kind of person you want to end up with. It isn’t completely right to have superficial expectations from your soulmate, but it is always good to know what kind of a life partner we seek.
This might just be the reason for my long overdue single status. I am a hopeless romantic and have grown up watching films which have had male characters who were all different in many ways — especially in the way they loved. And many of their traits definitely made them a potential other. Needless to say, like most single humans, I also have a checklist of the traits that I want and/or don’t want from a partner. But I would be lying if I said, this list wasn’t influenced by the amazing romantic men I have watched in numerous Bollywood films. If you have been single for even the last couple of years, you may have downloaded some dating apps at some point. Sometimes juggling two apps at a time, sometimes four. If you have done this then you know that online dating or dating, in general, isn’t easy at all. My failed attempts at it could be a blog or a book by itself. I know, many of you have been there too.
So, while I sigh over the clearly up-sold profiles on my ‘Attempt Number: 3’ at finding love online. Here’s a list of 10 actors and their performances that gave me high (and some valid) expectations. Ergo, making them responsible for my single status.
Here you go:
Shah Rukh Khan in Kal Ho Naa Ho
Of course, I began my list with this film. Aman was funny, sweet, a little mean at times but overall he had a heart full of love. Like Naina’s (Preity Zinta) little sister Jia in the film, I was in love with Aman too. He wanted not just Naina but every single person that he loved to be happy. So, yes, when Aman passed away, I cried. I cried at all the emotional scenes and I won’t believe you even if you said you didn’t.
Shahid Kapoor in Jab We Met
Aditya Kashyap portrayed by Shahid Kapoor was an ordinary man with a broken heart but once he met Geet, his perception towards life changed completely. It must have been difficult to let the girl he had fallen for so hard walkway. But not only did he help her reach her destiny, he also made sure she reached there safely too. Even when he found her months later, heartbroken and alone, as she had once found him, he helped her be her true self again. He cared deeply for her and even when he had enough reasons to leave, he stayed. I think that’s why I loved his character, he didn’t take off at the first sign of a problem or difficulty. He saw Geet as a person, not just someone he was in love with.
Ranbir Kapoor in Barfi
Where do I even begin for this one?! Ranbir Kapoor turned my heart into nothing but a pile of mush. There is so much to love about his character but above anything else, the one that made me fall for Barfi was how fearless he was when he came to giving and accepting love. And when he loved, he gave his everything to that person. Sometimes, that’s all we need right? – Someone to love us unconditionally.
Imran Khan in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
I remember I had just started my junior college when this movie came out and I wasn’t the only one who had a crush on Jai. Lol. Boys had a tough time matching up to him that year. He was a total sweetheart from the beginning of the film and right till the end. Imran Khan‘s performance made Jai even more likeable. But the one thing that made its way on my checklist was that he was Aditi’s (Genelia D’souza) best friend first then a lover.
Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham in Dostana
Yes, Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham‘s characters competed for the same girl and spun a lot of lies but they were always there for Neha (Priyanka Chopra) when she needed them. In the end, they decided to put their selfish motives aside and think about the one they love. I believe, every romantic relationship needs to have two people who are willing to put their selfish motives away when it truly matters.
Abhay Deol in Socha Na Tha
Viren was clueless, confused and yet ready to take a leap of faith for love. Abhay Deol‘s charm and adorable screen presence made Viren and all his flaws more likeable. He may not have known what he wanted at the beginning which most of us don’t. You have to go through a few wrong doors until you finally find the right one. Because once he knew, he stopped at nothing. Viren went after the girl he loved and eloped with her. It’s that “We’ll figure it out as long as we’re together” feeling that I miss about being in love the most. Do you know what I mean?
Akshay Kumar in Namastey London
Arjun, played by Akshay Kumar was also a character who valued commitment and love. Even when life threw many challenges his way, he kept fighting to win back his love until the last moment. And yes, the whole run-away bride bit was a little too much but in the end, love made its way back to him. I wonder if staying true to your commitment and honouring it is even possible in this instant hook-up and break-up culture. But, I am not giving up hope yet.
Rajkummar Rao in City Lights
Rajkummar Rao is as talented as they come. His portrayal of Deepak Singh was touching and heartbreaking too. If there was one thing, one feeling that his character made me add to my sit of traits was selflessness. What he did in the film was an extreme example but the at the core it is still simple. He was willing to put love for his family above everything else.
Ranveer Singh in Dil Dhadakne Do
Ranveer Singh can pull-off any character and he did justice to this one too. Again, Kabir also may have been confused and caught up with his life choices and family drama. But he finally displayed courage and went after the girl he loved. He jumped off a freakin’ ship. NO, it’s not what I am expecting or even asking anyone to do. All I am saying is, love needs to be bold and courageous and that’s exactly what I loved about Kabir.
Akshaye Khanna in Dil Chahta Hai
I have always felt that Akshaye Khanna played the role of a man in a group of boys. His character, Sid was way ahead of his time. He wasn’t scared to accept an unconventional kind of love into his life. He even stood up for it when one of his best friends didn’t understand how he could love an older woman. Sid made me believe that love doesn’t have to be the way the people around you define it to be. Love simply is.
I have loved a little bit of each of these characters but again, no, I am not under any misconceptions that some guy will check all the boxes. Maybe I will meet someone who will be all this and more or I might just throw out my list altogether. You never know. But one thing is for sure, my love for Bollywood movies and love stories is definitely never going to change.
Which on-screen character made you believe in love?
