‘Namaste England’ film: A boring tale with astounding levels of ludicrousness

New Delhi: In Vipul Amrutlal Shah’s Namaste England, Arjun Kapoor plays a traditional, country-loving desi farmer Param, who falls head over heels for a goal-oriented Jasmeet, played by Parineeti Chopra.

Namaste England begins with the dullest, most unimaginative boy-meets-girl story and it only goes downhill from there.

Jasmeet (Parneeti Chopra) is a bright young woman whose dreams of being a jewellery designer have been thwarted by her orthodox grandfather. Jasmeet falls in love with Param (Arjun Kapoor) and is allowed to marry him on the condition that she will not work after marriage.

The seemingly progressive couple, take some bizarre decisions in life, ones that actually take their relationship to a breaking point. The story does have an underlying message, but the lacklustre writing and direction aren’t able to explore the true potential of the film.

It’s a love at first sight for Param. While Param has eyes only for Jasmeet, she is a woman of aspirations – two precisely – first, to get married to him and second, to continue working after the wedding. Sadly, her grandfather and brother belong to the conservative mindset who are strictly against working women.

But Param isn’t brave enough to stand up for her when it’s time for marriage. His family abides by Jasmeet’s grandfather’s promise that she doesn’t work once she ties the knot. Cut to Jasmeet crying and Param consoling her with, what else, a hug.

Namaste England, starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra is a dull and boring tale with astounding levels of ludicrousness.
