Here’s How To Make A Proper Mumbai-Style Masala Pav Sandwich At Home

Who doesn’t like street food? Chaats, samosas, vada pavs and parathas are the ideal go-to hunger sitch every evening, isn’t it? However, street food can only be enjoyed if served fresh, don’t you agree? This is exactly why we suggest you try to make these at home. Not only will it be consumed fresh, but are also a healthier option. Plus, you can customise these dishes as per your convenience and preference. Today, Vidhi Doshi a.k.a. @RamenHairedGirl gives us an easy recipe to cook-up a Mumbai-style masala pav sandwich at home. Here it is.

What You’ll Need

2 Tsp butter
1 Medium onion finely chopped
1 Small clove of garlic, grated
1/2 Finely chopped capsicum
2 Finely chopped tomatoes
1 Tsp garam masala
1/2 Tsp pav bhaji masala
1/2 Tsp Chilli powder
Salt to taste
A pinch of sugar (if needed)

For The Pav

1 Tsp butter
2 Pavs
4 Tomato slices
4 Onion slices
4 Boiled potato slices
Coriander for garnish

Here’s How You Can Put It All Together

Step 1

Heat the butter in a flat non-stick pan, add the garlic and onions and saute for 2-3 minutes on a medium flame till translucent. Add the capsicum and cook for 2 minutes.

Add the tomatoes, garam masala, pav bhaji masala, red Chilli powder and cool well. Mash it lightly and cook for 6-7 minutes till the tomatoes are cooked. If the tomatoes are too sour, you can add a pinch of sugar here.

While the stove is on, scrape the masala on one side and heat the remaining butter and heat 2 pavs in it. Stuff the pavs with masalas.

Place the tomato, onion and potato slices in the pav and let it heat for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Serve hot and garnished with coriander.
