New Delhi: In the run-up to 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP is gearing up for its ‘Mission South’ to enthuse and invigorate its cadre.
BJP President Amit Shah on Monday appointed PS Sreedharan Pillai as Kerala unit head while elevated Sunil Deodhar for a bigger role in Andhra Pradesh.
This will be the second innings as state chief for Pillai as he had held that post during 2003-06. The post of Kerala BJP president was vacant since May this year after Kummanam Rajasekharan was made the Mizoram governor.
Deodhar, credited for party’s historic mandate in Tripura, has been made co-incharge of Andhra Pradesh, where the Lok Sabha and assembly elections are scheduled next year.
Known for his organisational skills, Deodhar has been chosen to energise the party in Andhra Pradesh where BJP is struggling to make inroads.
BJP MP V Muraleedharan as in-charge for Andhra Pradesh, while Deodhar would be his deputy.
Sunil Deodhar has also been made BJP’s national secretary, an apparent reward for successfully spearheading BJP’s campaign in Tripura.
An RSS import in the BJP, Deodhar scripted the electoral victory of the saffron party in Tripura.
