Yes, you guys! While we cannot imagine anyone else play the iconic part of Ballu anymore, had things gone as per Ghai’s plan there would have been a different face!

Opening up to Mumbai Mirror in his latest interview, Ghai has said that while Khalnayak was planned as a Hollywood film! What’s more, is that Nana Patekar was the original choice for Ballu alongside Jackie Shroff. But he decided to stick to a language that he was more comfortable with and decided to make the film with a small art-house production featuring Nana Patekar and Jackie Shroff as cop and criminal.

The acclaimed filmmaker said, “It eventually rolled out as a mainstream masala movie, with a heroine, love story, a mother track and half-a-dozen songs woven in, as dictated by the formula, and Sanju as the khalnayak.”

What’s more is that Ghai has hinted at a possibility of a Khalnayak 2 and also a remake of his first directorial venture, Kalicharan. Spilling the beans on these films, Ghai says that he has been spending a lot of his lockdown time giving classes to his students at his acting school. The further said, “For the last six-seven months we have only been creating content and now I’m ready with two bound scripts—a sequel to Khalnayak and a remake of my first directorial, Kalicharan.”

Giving a teaser to the plot of the film, Subhash Ghai said, “Part 2, which took us two years to script, starts with Ballu coming out of prison. It will also feature a younger villain.”
