Ministry of home affairs issues notice to Rahul Gandhi over his citizenship
New Delhi: Ministry of Home Affairs issued notice to Congress President Rahul Gandhi over his citizenship after receiving a complaint from Rajya Sabha MP Dr Subramanian Swamy
In a letter addressed to the Congress chief, the ministry said that Rahul, in an annual return filed by company Backops Limited, has declared his nationality as British.
The ministry sought Rahul’s response within a fortnight.
Earlier this month, the returning officer in Amethi had postponed the scrutiny of his nomination papers after Dhruv Lal, an independent candidate, had raised objections against the details provided by Gandhi in his nomination papers. Previously, in a press conference on this issue, BJP’s GVL Narasimha Rao had said, I think it’s a matter of great surprise that the objections that have been raised regarding Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship haven’t been answered. Rahul Gandhi’s name has been shown to be listed as a British citizen in documents related to a company in the UK. Was Rahul Gandhi a British citizen?”

Mumbai: Equity benchmark indices opened on a flat note and slipped into negative territory on Tuesday as the trading hours progressed.

At 10:15 am, the BSE S&P Sensex was down 274 points at 38,793 while the NSE Nifty slipped 88 points to 11,666.
Yes Bank lost over 25 per cent following bad corporate results for Q4 of FY 19. IndusInd Bank and Indiabulls Housing Finance slipped more than 6 per cent each while Bharti Infratel and Sun Pharma were down over 3 per cent.
However, Asian Paints, Indian Oil, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra and Dr Reddy showed marginal gains.

Need to move away from textbook knowledge, focus on open debates: VP Venkaiah Naidu
New Delhi: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday called for a re-look into the way students are trained in colleges and schools, and said there is need to move away from textbook knowledge and instead, focus on open debates.
Addressing the gathering at the 55th Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony of Shyam Lal College, the Vice President said, “There is a need to move away from textbook knowledge, rigid ideas and examination marks and to focus on well informed, open debates.”
He asked centres of higher education to replace long hours of lectures with newer teaching methods such as using case studies, problem-solving techniques and role-playing, to improve employability.
Terming acquisition of employable skills and knowledge as tools to succeed in the modern day, Naidu urged institutions of higher education to develop an industry focus and encourage students to take up live projects, internships and enable them to constantly interact with industry and corporate bodies.
Expressing concern over the poor global ranking of Indian institutions, the Vice President said, “Our quest for excellence in education would remain unfulfilled if we fail to achieve international standards in higher education.”
Talking about India’s demographic dividend, Naidu stressed on the need to educate the burgeoning youth population and equip them with employable skills to harness the power of India’s youth and make the country a global leader.
Emphasising that neglecting education would adversely impact the growth of the nation as a whole, the Vice President said that there was an urgent and imminent need to re-think and re-engineer the entire education system.
Naidu stressed upon the need to fundamentally re-cast the education system, institutions, pedagogy, teaching and learning methods and said that a beginning must be made from primary education.
He also suggested increasing investment in education from the current 3 per cent of GDP to at least 6 per cent by 2022, as recommended by the NITI Aayog.
The Vice President also said he wants institutions, especially schools in rural areas, to not only ensure 100 per cent enrolment but also make sure that all children learn at a high level of proficiency and ensure that no child is left behind. (ANI)

Indian Army finds the abominable snowman in the Himalayas?
The Indian Army has claimed to have stumbled upon footprints of a ‘Yeti’ in the Himalayas.
Taking to Twitter, the Army said its mountaineering expedition team spotted the “mysterious” footprints on April 09 close to Makalu Base Camp.
This elusive snowman has only been sighted at Makalu-Barun National Park in the past, the Army claimed. The images, however, show the imprint of only one foot.
For the first time, an #IndianArmy Moutaineering Expedition Team has sited Mysterious Footprints of mythical beast ‘Yeti’ measuring 32×15 inches close to Makalu Base Camp on 09 April 2019. — ADG PI – INDIAN ARMY (@adgpi) April 29, 2019
The Army’s revelation has, however, left Twitterverse in splits, as the ‘findings’ of the mountaineering team has sparked off a range of memes among netizens.
While a number of Twitter users are puzzled if this is a prank, some have quipped that the Twitter handle of the Army may have been hacked. Some have even mentioned that the influence of a cartoon may be too strong.
“Why only one footstep?” asks one Twitter user, to which another says, “Is the account hacked?”
Often referred to as the ‘abdominal snowman’, a Yeti is said to be an ape-like creature taller than an average human and forms a part of the pre-Buddhist beliefs of several Himalayan people.
Trekkers and inhabitants of the Himalayan region have often cited the presence of a large furry creature in the vicinity. Many have also documented footprints of what they claim was a Yeti. However, there has been no scientific backing of the presence of these creatures. (ANI)

India suffer second defeat in MU-15 C’ship
Palmanova: India suffered their second defeat 1-3 in the ongoing MU-15 Championship at the hands of Mexico by 1-3 in Palmanova.
Jesus Hernandes Moreno opened the scoring for Mexico early on Monday, before Carlos Eduardo Guillen added another. Aula Siba came inches close to pulling one back for India when he got an opportunity to tap it in from inside the six-yard box. However, he sent his shot agonisingly wide.
Eventually, Sridarth won and converted a penalty towards the end of the first half of this 70-minute match to give Coach Bibiano Fernandes’ team a fighting chance. Moreno scored again, just after the changeover, to secure the three points for the Mexicans.
In the second half, Indians knocked hard on the doors of Mexicans but could not turn the tables. Ashu, Amosa Lalnundanga and Ratanbi Singh combined well to create a few chances, but it was too little, too late, as Mexico ran away with the win in the end.
India will next play against Slovenia in their last group stage game on April 30. (ANI)

Cyclone Fani: Indian Navy prepares ships, aircraft for assistance
New Delhi: In view of ‘Fani’ intensifying into a severe cyclonic storm on the southern and south-eastern coast of India, the Eastern Naval Command is all geared up to render necessary humanitarian assistance if the need arises.
“Naval aircraft are standing by at Naval air station INS Rajali at Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu and INS Dega at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, to undertake reconnaissance, rescue, casualty evacuation and air drop of relief material to the stranded if required,” said a spokesperson of India Navy on Tuesday.
These ships are embarked with additional divers, doctors, inflatable rubber boats, and relief materials in quantities sufficient, the spokesperson further informed.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Indian Coast Guard have also been put on high alert and are coordinating with the state governments of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclone ‘Fani’ intensified into severe cyclone at 5:30 pm on April 29. It is to intensify further and move towards the Odisha coast.
Odisha government on Monday directed the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) to keep a close watch over the situation and has asked concerned departments to stay prepared to deal with any challenge.
In an emergency meeting of the officials chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi presented the action points.
The Chief Secretary has also directed the authorities to keep ready cyclone and flood shelters in coastal areas with all necessary emergency equipment and materials. Health and Family Welfare, and Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Departments have also been asked to keep stock of essential medicines and food items in district headquarters.
According to an official statement, Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Departments have also been asked to ensure the supply of drinking water as per the requirement in the marooned areas.
Sethi informed the meeting that the cyclone ‘Fani,’ currently over south-west Bay of Bengal adjoining east Equatorial Indian Ocean, would take shape of a very severe cyclonic storm by April 30 and further intensify to an extremely severe cyclonic storm by the morning of May 2.
As per the available readings, the cyclone is shifting its original track and is coming closer to the coast. It was earlier predicted that the cyclone would move inside the sea.
Odisha Chief Secretary Padhi said the number of Disaster Rapid Action Force (DRAF) units has been increased to 20 from 10 and all 20 units are now fully functional with necessary equipment. Twelve 12 units of NDRF team are also available in the state to respond to any emergency.
According to officials, there are 879 multipurpose cyclone shelters in the costal belt of Odisha. These shelters can accommodate about one million persons during cyclone and flood.
A total of 252 power boats in working condition have been placed with different District Collectors. The Fire Stations have also been equipped with necessary search and rescue equipment.
The conditions of the sea are likely to be very rough along and off Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and south Andhra Pradesh coasts till May 3. The fishermen have also been advised not to venture into deep sea in these coastal areas. (ANI)

5 Masks That Will Obliterate Blackheads
Although blackheads are less conspicuous than acne or hyperpigmentation, they are still one of the most annoying skincare issues out there. Essentially, blackheads are open pores that are clogged with sebum and have oxidised to give them their greyish-black appearance. The best way to get rid of them is by getting regular extractions at the hands of a professional. Unfortunately, that can get time-consuming and expensive. Luckily, there are a number of powerful masks that can help banish them from your face!
1. Kiehl’s Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Mask
Formulated with white clay, this detoxifying mask works to draw out toxins and impurities, whilst absorbing excess sebum. Unlike several clay masks however, this one does not dry skin out since it contains aloe in it too.
2. GlamGlow InstaMud
I love this quick-acting mask! The foaming formula purifies skin in 60 seconds and leaves it soft, clean and refreshed. Apart from oil-absorbing ingredients like bentonite and kaolin, it also features witch hazel, which is an astringent that helps minimise open pores. Plus, the purple formula makes for a fun selfie!
3. Tata Harper Purifying Mask
Although this mask is the most expensive one on this list, every drop is totally worth it. Apart from traditional ingredients like white clay, it contains probiotics, brown algae and essential oils to keep skin healthy. The most interesting component however, is prickly pear seed oil, which is a great anti-oxidant and helps in preventing blackheads.
4. Origins Original Skin Retexturing Mask With Rose Clay
Usually, I’m not a huge fan of physical exfoliation. This mask however completely changed my opinion! The jojoba beads present in this formula gently buff skin, without leaving it red, angry or irritated. I like popping this mask in the refrigerator for about 10 to 15 minutes before using it because the rose clay feels soothing when applied cold.
5. Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding
When a product has 2 kinds of charcoal in it, you know it means business! This creamy mask goes on smoothly to decongest pores and balance skin. If you suffer from acne and blackheads, this is definitely the formula to opt for.
Although many people use pore strips to get rid off blackheads, I find that masks are gentler and more effective in the long run. If you’ve tried any of these formulas out, leave a comment below and let me know about your experience!

Karisma Kapoor’s Summer Dress Is Exactly What You’d Wanna Bag RN
Are you on a lookout for the perfect summer dress? Well, your watch ends here. Okay, sorry for the bad GoT pun, but on a serious note, it seems like Karisma Kapoor has already found one! It’s a summer essential even she wouldn’t miss out on, and we’re here for the deets.
Papped at the airport, Karisma donned an ensemble that is synonymous to the summertime goodness that we’re feeling RN. Celebrity stylist Eshaa Amiin selected this easy-breezy outfit from Tahweave for a comfy travel style. The white, front-pleated dress had floral jamdani and embroidered pockets. This was layered with green striped cowl overlayer. These separates are a part of their summer/resort ’19 collection, Versapalli, which was showcased at Lakme Fashion Week last season. Karisma rocked the outfit with black wayfarers and fuchsia pink lips. The strappy gold sandals grounded the whole look. Also, her casual pose with hands in the pockets made this one more appealing to the eye.
Here’s what makes this OOTD our summer favourite:
- Summertime colour palette
- Dress with pockets
- Light, floaty overlay
- Black wayfarers
Would you invest in a summer-appropriate outfit like Karisma’s? We surely think we would love to!
