“The third round of Corps Commander-level meeting between India and China went on for 12 hours and got over at 11 PM last night,” said Army Sources.

The first two rounds had taken place in Moldo on the Chinese side of the LAC.

In the second round of Corps Commander-level talks held on June 22, both sides reached a mutual consensus to disengage in the Eastern Ladakh sector, army sources said.

The modalities for disengagement from all friction areas in Eastern Ladakh were discussed and these will be taken forward by both sides, sources added.

The military commanders from both sides had met initially on June 6 and had agreed to disengage at multiple locations. India had asked the Chinese side to return to pre-May 4 military positions along the LAC.

The Chinese side had not given any response to the specific Indian proposal and not even shown intent on the ground to withdraw troops from rear positions where they had amassed over 10,000 troops.

India and China have been involved in talks to ease the ongoing border tensions since last month. Twenty Indian soldiers lost their lives in a violent face-off in Galwan valley on June 15-16 after an attempt by the Chinese troops to unilaterally change the status quo during the de-escalation.

Indian intercepts revealed that the Chinese side suffered 43 casualties including dead and seriously injured in the face-off. (ANI)

China passes controversial Hong Kong security law

Beijing [China]: The Chinese Parliament on Tuesday passed controversial national security legislation for Hong Kong, ignoring the worldwide outcry and protest in the semi-autonomous city against the law.

According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), the law approved by the National People’s Congress Standing Committee on Tuesday is expected to carry a maximum penalty of life in jail, contrary to earlier indications of a 10-year limit.

Amid COVID-19 crisis, China steps up bullying in South and East China Sea

Sources told the SCMP that the law was proved unanimously by the Standing Committee’s 162 members, within 15 minutes of the meeting starting at 9 am.

Only a handful of Hong Kong delegates to the national legislature saw the draft of the law before the passage.

A source familiar with the situation had told Xinhua, the official state news agency, would publish the details in the afternoon, marking the first time the law will be fully disclosed to the public.

The law is expected to come into effect on July 1, the 23rd anniversary of the city’s handover to China from British rule.

The security legislation, which bans secessionist activities, among other things, is seen by Hong Kong residents as undermining their liberties.

On Sunday, pro-democracy demonstrators took out a silent march against the law. Police had arrested 53 people of them on the charges of unlawful assembly.

The bill in regard to national security law that was introduced last month has sparked domestic protests and was received with international criticism despite both Beijing and Hong Kong’s leadership maintaining that they have the full right to implement the legislation.

Countries like the US, Australia and the UK have opposed the law which is believed to be brought by China to strengthen its hold on Hong Kong.

On June 23, the European Parliament voted in favour of bringing China before the International Court of Justice over its decision to adopt a new national security law for semi-autonomous Hong Kong.

US President Donald Trump announced a slew of measures to reflect the increased danger of surveillance and punishment by the Chinese Security Apparatus.

On June 18, Foreign Ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) member countries issued a joint statement strongly urging China to reconsider its decision to impose national security legislation on Hong Kong. (ANI)

Country wants to know why Rajiv Gandhi Foundation ‘took money’ from China: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday said that the people of the country want to know why did the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) “take money” from China.

“The country wants to know why Rajiv Gandhi Foundation took money from China? Sonia Gandhi will have to tell the country the truth. They get donations from China and do an MoU with the Chinese Communist Party. They should apologise to the country. Congress does not even have the right to speak in the matter of protecting the country,” Chouhan said in the Chhattisgarh Jan Samvad programme.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan

“In 2005-06, China gave a donation of Rs 90 lakh to the Congress. Does Congress have any shame? At that time, the chairperson of the Congress was Sonia Gandhi,” he added.

Chouhan said, “Jawaharlal Nehru had advocated for making China a permanent member in the United Nations. Why China is shocked today after Prime Minister Narendra Modi built a road to the border. India is the only country in the world that can move ahead of China in future.”

The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said that Jawaharlal Nehru gave the slogan of ‘Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai’ (Indians and Chinese are brothers) but the latter himself did not know that when did the Chinese enter the Indian territory in 1962.

Modi-nehru

“When the Chinese had entered India, Congress had said in Parliament that what would they do with that land as even grass does not grow there, while referring to Aksai Chin area,” he said.

Chouhan stated that the current scenario is different under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“China forgot that it is not the India of 1962. This is Modi’s India. We are in favour of peace and we will not provoke anyone but if someone provokes us, we will not leave them,” he said.

Chouhan stated that Chhattisgarh’s initials CG signified “credible growth” when Raman Singh was the state’s Chief Minister, but today’s CG signifies “chaotic governance”.

Raman Singh, Chhattisgarh, election results

“What does Chhattisgarh mean? CG meant credible growth when Raman Singh was Chief Minister. But today’s Chhattisgarh means chaotic governance. Today, the people of Chhattisgarh are feeling what Raman Singh was? He led the state for 15 years and wrote a new chapter in development,” he said.

He said that the Prime Minister has done the work of increasing honour of the country in the world.

“Generations were spent to create the best India. Today, a New India has been formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi,” he said. (ANI)

Jaipur: FIR against Ramdev, others for claiming to develop COVID-19 cure

Jaipur (Rajasthan): An FIR has been registered against Yog guru Ramdev, Patanjali CEO Acharya Balkrishna, NIMS University, Jaipur, Director Dr Balbir Singh Tomar and others for their claiming to develop a cure for the coronavirus while the pandemic is wreaking havoc across the globe.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police, Jaipur, Ashok Gupta, the FIR has been registered in Jyotinagar police station based on the complaint of an advocate of Rajasthan High Court.

“We had received complaints at multiple police stations against Ramdev for claiming to have developed a medicine which cures coronavirus. Therefore, we have registered a case against Ramdev, his associate Balkrishna, NIMS Director Dr Tomar, based on a complaint by advocate Balram Jakhar,” Gupta told reporters here.

Meanwhile, the advocate, who had filed the complaint said that the claim made by Ramdev and his associates “reeks of criminal intent”, especially because it has come at a time when the world is facing the brunt of the pandemic.

“On June 23 Ramdev held a press conference in Patanjali Research Institute, Haridwar. Many people were on the stage during the conference, and they claimed that they have developed a cure, Coronil, for coronavirus and it will make COVID-19 positive patients negative within three days. The AYUSH Ministry and Centre have refuted these claims and asked all documents related to these claims and till date, it has not verified that the medicine fulfils the parameters of WHO and AYUSH Ministry,” Jakhar said.

“Therefore, this attempt reeks of criminal intent and therefore, I lodged an FIR at Jyotinagar police station under various sections of the law,” he added.

Earlier, Acharya Balkrishna had said that all procedures were followed to manufacture the medicine, Coronil, and they have not done anything wrong while obtaining the licence.

This comes after MoS for the Union Ayush Ministry Shripad Naik had said that Patanjali Ayurved should not have advertised its newly-launched Ayurvedic drugs for COVID-19 before getting final approvals. (ANI)

Nadda has lost his political balance by attempts at distraction and diversion from issues of national security, territorial integrity: Cong

New Delhi: The Congress on Friday alleged that BJP President JP Nadda “has lost his political balance in his flailing attempts at distraction and diversion from the issues of national security and territorial integrity”.

“BJP President, Shri J.P. Nadda has lost his political balance in his flailing attempts at distraction and diversion from the issues of national security and territorial integrity. All this is being done so that the Indian National Congress and our fellow countrymen stop questioning the Modi Government on the Chinese transgressions on our motherland,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said in a statement.

“Every day, a new conspiracy is crafted by the delusional leadership so as to spread disinformation, hysteria, and commotion to bury the apparent incompetence and complete failure of the Modi Government in defending our borders,” he added.

He further alleged that the BJP leadership is “also scared” of the questions being asked on its deep-rooted Chinese connections, its connection to “China Association for International Friendly Contact” (‘CAIFC) and its persistent interactions with the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP)

The Congress spokesperson then posed 10 questions to the ruling party that asked about its “connection with the Communist Party of China (‘CCP’)”. “What is the historical relationship between BJP and CCP spoke about by the then BJP President, Shri Rajnath Singh during the visit of a CCP delegation on January 30th, 2007 and reiterated by him during the meeting with members of Politburo of the CCP on October 17,h, 2008?” he further asked.

Further targetting the RSS, the Congress leader asked why did the RSS go to China in January 2009 on an invite from the CCP. Surjewala asked, “Why was a delegation of RSS invited by the CCP despite it not being a political party and what discussions were held on our sensitive state of Arunachal Pradesh as also Tibet?”

“Why did the then BJP President, Shri Nitin Gadkari go to China on a five-day visit on January 19., 2011 at the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CCP),” the congress asked and later questioned the Union Home Minister Amit Shah send a delegation of MP’s/MLA’s in November 2014 to China for a week-long study in “The Party School” of the CCP.

Further targetting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress also targetted his visits to China on 4 separate occasions as Chief Minister of Gujarat and on 5 separate occasions as the Prime Minister of India, besides hosting the Chinese Premier on 3 occasions in India. “Isn’t he the only Prime Minister to have had 18 meetings with the Chinese Premier in 6 years as the Prime Minister? Has his ‘Jhula Diplomacy’ worked?,” Surjewala said.

He added: “Will the BJP like the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has done, ask the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS’) to make public the list of all its donors and the amounts received including from all foreign sources including individuals, entities, organisations, and governments? Will the BJP, like the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation has done, ask the Vivekananda Foundation and the India Foundation to make public the list of all its donors including international donors (including foreign individuals), companies, entities, organisations including those of Chinese origin, if any?”

He further urged the ruling party to “declare the name of donors from whom it has received thousands of crores in donations through electoral bonds”.

“Will the BJP disclose the source of funding, amounts received, name of donors (including of Chinese origin) for “Overseas Friends of BJP” (‘OF-BJP’)? How much amount has been received by OF-BJP from ‘Overseas Friends of BJP-China and Hong Kong’ and when? What is the connection of Shri Rajkumar Naraindas Sabnani alias Raju Sabnani to OF-BJP?,” the Congress leader demanded.

“Has the BJP/RSS received funding from international foundations, funds, entities and organisations? If yes, how much amount has been received by BJP-RSS over the last 6 years by international funding and donors?” read the last question.

The Congress leader then urged the ruling party to “rise from their fears to support the armed forces. “We urge the BJP President and the Modi Government to rise from their fears, defend the nation, and support our armed forces. This is the only true ‘Patriotism’,” he said. (ANI)

US agrees to launch dialogues with EU on threats posed by China

New Delhi: The United States and the European Union have agreed to launch a dialogue on China to address the threats of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said.

China displays 'rogue' attitude in neighbourhood, creates wedge between US, Europe: Pompeo

Pompeo made the remarks during the Brussels Forum in a discussion with the German Marshal Fund. “Enjoyed the discussions today at the German Marshall Fund’s #BrusselsForum. I am excited to announce the U.S. and EU are launching a dialogue on China to address the threats the CCP poses to our common values and way of life,” tweeted Pompeo on Friday

Last week, European Union chief diplomat Josep Borrell has called for talks between Europe and the United States aimed at forging a common transatlantic front against China. During talks with 27 EU Foreign Ministers and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Borrell on June 15 had said the two sides should make common cause “to defend our values and our interest”.

“I am pleased to announce that the United States has accepted High Representative Borrell’s proposal to create a US-EU dialogue on China,” Pompeo said. “I am excited about a new mechanism for discussing the concerns we have about the threat that China poses to the West and our shared democratic ideals,” Pompeo said.

During the Brussels Forum, Pompeo repeatedly mentioned “the threat of the Communist Party in China” and referred to “provocative military actions” of People’s Liberation Army (PLA), including “deadly border confrontations” with India.

Pompeo said that the behaviour of CCP is fundamentally putting the American people’s security at risk and stressed that the Donald Trump administration is the first in decades to take this threat seriously.
