Eight Indonesians who attended Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi quarantined by police in Bijnor
Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh): Eight Indonesians who had participated in the Tablighi Jamaat religious congregation in the Nizamuddin area of the national capital were picked from a mosque in Nagina area here on Tuesday and were later quarantined by the local police.
Sanjay Singh, SP (Rural) said, “The Indonesians have been home-quarantined. We have registered a case against five persons of the mosque.”
Meanwhile, in New Delhi people who participated in the Tablighi Jamaat congregation, were taken to different hospitals for a checkup.
Earlier, 24 people who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat event tested positive for coronavirus in the national capital.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain had said that the officials are not certain of the accurate number of people who participated in the event but it is being estimated that 1,500-1,700 people had assembled at the Markaz building.
The religious gathering was held at the Markaz building in Nizamuddin between March 13-15, that violated lockdown conditions.
The total number of coronavirus cases in India climbed to 1397 on Tuesday after 146 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours across the country. The death toll due to the COVID-19 rose to 35 while 123 cases were cured or discharged after treatment, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. (ANI)

COVID-19 myths busted: Check here
New Delhi: As the country battles the spread of COVID-19, a lot of misinformation related to the virus has been floating on social media.
From WhatsApp forwards that claim to have come from medical practitioners to self-proclaimed advisors on Twitter, there are many causing damage to the society with false information.
In an attempt to cut the clutter around the information, the Government of India has listed some of the most common myths and has busted them using information from the World Health Organisation (WHO) on the MyGov website.
The most common myth which has been doing rounds is that coronavirus cannot thrive in hot temperatures and therefore, hot baths and hand dryers are helpful in killing the virus.
However, MyGov.in quoted WHO and denied any such claims. According to the organization, the virus can be transmitted in hot and humid climates and hot baths and hand dryers do not have any impact on them.
Another temperature-related myth is that snow and cold weather can kill the virus which is also false as per the information on the government website.
Though many viral diseases like dengue fever, Japanese encephalitis, and West Nile fever are transmitted through mosquito bites, coronavirus can only be spread through human communication.
One piece of misinformation which is harming the society in the most significant manner is that of pets and animals spreading the disease.
Getting influenced by it, many pet parents are abandoning animals in an attempt to keep themselves and their families safe.
However, both the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have denied any such claims.
“CDC has not received any reports of pets or other animals becoming sick with COVID-19,” read a statement by CDC.
Another myth that is doing rounds on the internet is that consumption of certain vegetables like garlic can protect people from coronavirus but according to WHO, no such evidence has been found related to the claim.
Sterilisation which is an important precaution to stop the spread of the highly contagious virus too has a lot of misinformation surrounding it.
According to a pointer on MyGov.in, while many microorganisms can be killed through Ultraviolet light, it should not be used for sterilisation processes related to coronavirus.
Once the virus once enters the human body, it cannot be killed by sanitization on the outside of the body with alcohol or chlorine or any other solution.
Also, according to WHO, there has been no evidence that regular rinsing of the nose with saline has protected people from infection with the coronavirus.
Some other myths busted on the government website are that antibiotics can kill the virus and consumption of garlic can protect from its infection.
While garlic is healthy it cannot protect people from contracting coronavirus and antibiotics can only work against bacteria.
To date, there is no specific medicine recommended to prevent or treat the coronavirus, the WHO has asserted.
As airports, government offices and multiplexes adopted thermal scanning before letting people enter or leave the premises, a lot of people have the belief that thermal scanning can detect if the person has contracted coronavirus.
While thermal scanners can detect if people have a fever, it cannot detect whether or not someone has coronavirus.
Amidst a global healthcare crisis caused by COVID-19, there are chances of false information being spread in different parts of the country.
Therefore, verifying each piece of information from WHO and other government websites is the best way to deal with the issue.
According to the World Health Organisation, COVID-19 has affected over seven lakh people globally. (ANI)

New Delhi: Superhero show ‘Shaktimaan’ and cult classic ‘Chanakya’ have joined the list of classic reruns on Doordarshan amid the nationwide 21-day lockdown.
The Central government has announced the rerun of ‘Shaktimaan,’ the famous serial featuring Mukesh Khanna, for 1-hour daily on DD National network from April 1 at 1 pm.
Also joining the course, ‘Chanakya’, the cult classic of 47 episodes, directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, has been planned for daily telecast in the afternoon time band of DD Bharti from the first week of April.

Earlier, the national broadcaster Doordarshan decided to re-telecast popular shows of that time ‘Circus’ starring Shah Rukh Khan, and also ‘Byomkesh Bakshi’ and mythological series ‘Ramayana.’

DD National’s social media handle also announced the return of Rajit Kapur-starrer ‘Byomeksh Bakshi.’

Late Dara Singh portrayed Hanuman and Arvind Trivedi was featured as Ravana. The show was originally telecast from January 25, 1987, to July 31, 1988. (ANI)

Risking lives of millions, Pak spreading coronavirus in Islamic countries
New Delhi: Pakistan which has coronavirus trajectory worse than Italy’s, and a deteriorated healthcare setup, has risked millions of lives recently by permitting a congregation of a quarter of a million Muslims in Lahore from different parts of the world amid coronavirus outbreak.
At a time when countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia are banning religious gatherings, Pakistan has not taken any such action and allowed an event organized by the local Tableeghi Jamaat Tableeghi Ijtema [literally “a congregation for outreach”].
On Sunday, the Gaza strip reported its first two cases of coronavirus. The two Palestinian men had recently returned from Pakistan after attending the event. They were among the 250,000 people that gathered in Lahore from March 10-15.
Pakistan has reported over 1300 cases and the country is totally ignorant about the rising number of cases. Journalist Kunwar Khuldune Shahid wrote in Hareetz that Pakistan might end up becoming a “super-spreader of the COVID-19” in the world.
“Pakistan’s numbers are prodigiously underreported, one can only imagine the actual gravity of the spread that might have been caused by the millions who came together for the latest Friday prayers,” wrote Shahid.
While Iran had canceled the weekly Friday prayers and Saudi Arabia had suspended the Umrah pilgrimage by the end of February, the Pakistani government was still “dillydallying” over forestalling a gathering of over a quarter of a million people in the country’s second-most populous city.
On March 12, the organizers were asked to disband the assembly, but only after around 250,000 people had already assembled in camps in preparation for the event. “The reason cited for the closure of the event wasn’t the fact that the world is in the midst of a pandemic which will completely change the global order – it was ‘rainy weather’,” wrote Shahid.
Shahid said that the clergies in Pakistan are not paying heed to calls for social distancing. What is worse is that government inaction against these clergies.
At a time when Iran has shut down the holiest Shia sites, Saudi Arabia has banned prayers at mosques – including the two holiest in Islam – and numerous Muslim countries like Turkey, UAE, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, among others have closed mosques, Pakistan allowed the Friday prayers on March 20, nationwide.
No action is being taken against clerics spreading lies about the cure of coronavirus on national television. Prominent Deobandi cleric Muhammad Taqi Usmani revealed on national TV that Prophet Muhammad had come in the dream of a Tableeghi Jamaatmember and “shared the cure for coronavirus.” The cure was the recital of certain Quranic verses.
More than 1,300 positive cases of novel coronavirus have been reported from Pakistan till now, with Sindh trailing behind the Punjab Province in tally.
Twenty-nine new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Punjab on Friday, taking the tally to 448 in the province, according to a spokesperson for the Punjab health department, DAWN reported.
Punjab now has the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the country, overtaking Sindh’s total of 440. (ANI)
