‘Fast & Furious’ franchise drops explosive ‘F9’ Trailer

Washington D.C. [USA]: The Fast & Furious franchise just released the trailer of ‘F9’, the ninth installment of the long-running action movie series produced by Universal Studios.

The video begins with Dominic Toretto (played by Vin Diesel) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodrigues) living a seemingly happy and peaceful life on a farm, with Torreto’s young son named Brian.
Torreto has apparently renounced the drag strip and become a family man as he says: “now that I’m a father, I can’t live my life a quarter-mile at a time anymore.”

But the air of tranquility soon turns ominous as Letty gives Brian her necklace for “protection — from what’s coming.”

After the relative calmness and warmth, total chaos and mind-boggling stunts ensue in the subsequent scenes. Dominic, after all, is pushed back to his risky and adrenalin-fueled adventures, albeit, forced by circumstances.

Amid the rocket-powered cars (yes, you heard it right), gravity-defying stunts and exploding vehicles, Dominic says: “no matter how fast you are, no one outruns their past, and mine just caught up to me.”

The secrecy around the hugely anticipated addition of John Cena to the Fast family is finally put to an end, as he is shown as Dom’s arch-enemy and long lost brother.

He is described as “a master thief, assassin, high-performance driver.”

Han (played by Sung Kang) who died long ago in ‘Tokyo Drift’, to everyone’s surprise, comes back to life and once again joins the crew.

According to Variety, other Fast & Furious debutants include UFC heavy weight fighter Francis Ngannou and Michael Rooker. The movie also features the comeback of Jordana Brewster — as Dom’s sister Mia — who last appeared in ‘Furious 7’.

The Justin Lin directed movie is scheduled for release on May 22 in the United States. (ANI)

Nirmala Sitharaman back with traditional ‘bahi khata’ for Budget 2020-21

New Delhi: For her second budget presentation, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday carried documents in a traditional ‘Bahi-Khata’ (ledger) wrapped in a red cloth, similar to what she carried last year.

Dressed in crisp yellow silk saree, accompanied by MoS Finance Anurag Thakur and other officials from her ministry, Sitharam will meet President Ram Nath Kovind before presenting the budget at 11 am today. The duration of the budget speech usually ranges from 90 to 120 minutes.
Last year, Sitharaman had ditched the long-standing tradition of carrying budget documents in a leather briefcase and went swadeshi with a ‘bahi-khata’.

Commenting on the shift from a briefcase to ‘bahi-khata’ during the 89th Union Budget, Chief Economic Advisor, Krishnamurthy Subramanian had told ANI in July last year, “The government is following Indian tradition and ‘bahi khata’ symbolises our departure from the slavery of Western thought.”

On being asked about the replacement of the briefcase, Subramanian had said, “It is not a Budget, but a Bahi-Khata (ledger).”

“Sitharaman believes that leather made products are not auspicious for the big occasion, so she avoided the leather bag and took the ‘bahi khata’ wrapped in the red cloth. This is considered to be auspicious,” he had said.

In July last year, Sitharaman had said that the Modi government is not a “suitcase-carrying government”, in an apparent jibe at the past dispensations.

Before Sitharaman, a long-standing tradition in connection with the budget presentation was broken during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government with the then Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha presenting the budget at 11 am rather than at the traditional time of 5 pm.

Since then all governments have been presenting the budget at 11 am. (ANI)

Union Budget 2020: Nirmala Sitharaman arrives at Finance Ministry

New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday morning reached the Ministry of Finance in the North Block, ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget 2020-2021 in Parliament.

Sitharaman will present her second budget in the Parliament at 11 am today. Before presenting the budget, she will meet President Ram Nath Kovind.
The duration of the budget speech usually ranges from 90 to 120 minutes.

Dressed in a yellow silk saree, Sitharaman continued with the tradition she set last year carrying the bahi-khata, which she used ditching the briefcase. She was seen holding a red bahi khata.

On the first day of the budget session of the Parliament, Sitharaman on Friday tabled the pre-budget Economic Survey for 2019-20, which projected the state of the economy and outlined its challenges. The survey was released by Chief Economic Adviser Krishnamurthy Subramanian.

According to the economic survey 2020, which was tabled in the Parliament on Friday, India’s gross domestic product (GDP) is projected to grow at a rate of 6 to 6.5 per cent in the next financial year 2020-21.

Sitharaman had presented her maiden budget in July last year, shortly after the Narendra Modi government came back to power in the Centre in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)

Nirmala Sitharaman to present budget in Parliament today

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will on Saturday present the budget of the second term of the Narendra Modi government.

This will also be the second budget for Sitharaman, who became the second woman finance minister after Indira Gandhi to do so in the history of independent India.
Sitharaman will present the full-year budget for the year ending March 2021.

Budget speech today

The Budget speech will begin at around 11 am today with Sitharaman beginning it with an address to the speaker of Lok Sabha. Usually, the duration of the presentation ranges from 90 to 120 minutes.

The Finance Minister on Friday tabled in Parliament the pre-Budget Economic Survey for 2019-20, which projected the state of the economy and outlined its challenges. The survey was released by Chief Economic Adviser Krishnamurthy Subramanian.

The Union Budget is the financial statement of the government, detailing its revenue and expenditure in the past, as well as estimated spending and projections for the coming year.

Sitharaman had presented her maiden budget in July last year, shortly after the BJP-led government came back to power in the Centre in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Till 2016, the Union Budget was presented on the last working day of February. Former finance minister Arun Jaitley had changed the tradition in 2017 when the Union Budget was presented on February 1. (ANI)

Jawaani Jaaneman Box Office Review: ‘Saif’ Ali Khan Finally Has A Solo ‘Safe’ Film Theatrically

Jawaani Jaaneman Box Office Review: Star Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Alaya F, Tabu, Kubbra Sait
Director: Nitin Kakkar
Producer: Jackky Bhagnani
Jawaani Jaaneman Box Office Review: 'Saif' Ali Khan Finally Has A Solo 'Safe' Film Theatrically
Jawaani Jaaneman Box Office Review: ‘Saif’ Ali Khan Finally Has A Solo ‘Safe’ Film Theatrically
Jawaani Jaaneman Box Office Review: Expectations
Even though the film’s trailer has been liked and music has become popular, the film hasn’t generated enough pre-release buzz at the box office. The reason behind all this is lackluster promotions, low stardom of Saif Ali Khan and too urban feel that the film has.
Still, the film is expected to have a reasonable Day 1 and then pick up from there with good word of mouth to eventually become a success.
Jawaani Jaaneman Box Office Review: Impact
When the trailer of the film was released, I was sure that this one will work for the exciting twist in the story. However, the film turns out to be even better than my expectations.
Saif Ali Khan is finally here with a solo film which may have its small target audience but will be accepted by them. Both story and the screenplay of the film are thoroughly enjoyable. While first half of the film is pretty good with several hilarious moments, the things only get better in the second half.
And it’s not just about laughs. The story line has scope for emotions, a good message and the film serves it all to the audience in a right way. The emotions work which makes the drama more relatable and helps the message to hit the right chord. The father-daughter relationship and the complexities have been very well written. No questions asked. There are some really heart touching dialogues and some awkwardly hilarious dialogues too which make you crack up instantly. I’ll like to specially congratulate director Nitin Kakkar for handling the story with much needed sophistication and maintaining a balance of everything. Every department of the film shines because he brings everything together beautifully.
The film is rich performances wise as well. While Saif Ali Khan is superb, he plays a character which will make sure that you have a smile on your face most of the times. Alaya F makes an impressive debut. She looks cute and acts confidently. Of course, there’s a scope of growth and I believe she’s capable of it. Tabu has a short role but really interesting one. She will make you laugh several times and you’ll remember her character for a long time. Kubbra Sait is lovely. Kiku Sharda has only one scene and that is probably one of the funniest scenes in the film. Kumud Mishra has his moments. Rest of the cast is also fine.
Jawaani Jaaneman Box Office Review: Final Verdict
Jawaani Jaaneman will take a slow start but is capable of long run despite new films releasing every week from here. Don’t be surprised if the film crosses 50 crores mark at the Box Office or even 75 crores for that matter.

Jawaani Jaaneman Movie Review: Saif Ali Khan Ages Like A Fine-Wine – The More He Acts, The Better He Gets

Jawaani Jaaneman Movie Review Rating: 3.5/5 Stars (Three and a half stars!)

Star Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Alaya F, Kubbra Sait, Kumud Mishra, Tabu, Chunky Pandey

Director: Nitin Kakkar

Jawaani Jaaneman Movie Review: Saif Ali Khan Ages Like A Fine-Wine - The More He Acts, The Better He Gets
Jawaani Jaaneman Movie Review: Saif Ali Khan Ages Like A Fine-Wine – The More He Acts, The Better He Gets

What’s Good: An actor who has refused to age, he’ll just stay here long enough to play himself in his biopic

What’s Bad: The process of shifting genre costs film the grip which was maintained since the start

Loo Break: Wouldn’t be ‘safe’ to do so! (Sorry, I had to do this!)

Watch or Not?: Probably one of the easiest movies to recommend in recent times

User Rating:

An uber-cool, carefree Jazz aka Jassi (Saif Ali Khan) is a real estate broker in London who’s all set to crack the biggest deal of his life. He’s a party animal who loves his freedom but is also crossing the age of 40. He meets a girl, Tia (Alaya F) in the club, brings her home, tries to get steamy with her until she drops the “you might be my father” bomb on him.

She statically explains to him how there’s a 33.33% chance that he’s her father. He’s not ready to sacrifice his freedom for her. The rest of the story is all about how Tia tries to stay close to Jazz and hope she gets her family together. On the other hand, we’ve Jazz who’s stuck in closing the deal & how it interconnects with Tia.

Jawaani Jaaneman Movie Review: Script Analysis

Apart from attention-absorbing script, it’s Saif Ali Khan’s presence that keeps you hooked. After your done being envious of how cool he looks, you’ll start laughing with him on his lame jokes. The script makes its way through comedy & drama balancing both of them equally. It’s an easy to watch, easy to recommend dramedy which is laced by some good performances.

There were times when the adult in me screamed for why the makers didn’t take a complete ‘A’ certificate route and made this into an A-rated affair. But then, the target audience. The pace dips in the second half when the drama takes over the driving seat. Jawaani Jaaneman holds an edge over Ajay Devgn’s De De Pyaar De which kind-of had a similar genre.

Jawaani Jaaneman Movie Review: Star Performance

Saif Ali Khan, without a single iota of doubt, is the best ageing Khan of Bollywood. There could’ve been no better actor than him to portray Jazz and he breathes in a whole of swag to the character. A tailor-made role for Saif flawlessly performed & intriguingly written.

Alaya is a charmer from the word goes. She has this unique aura around her because of which she doesn’t have to try hard to make people like her. She’s just there, doing her thing & the next moment, you’ll just relate to her. Yet again, an amazingly apt choice to cast for Tia.

Kubbra Sait adds value to the narrative with her performance. Even she’s in the ‘natural’ zone and her character graph fluctuates through the second half. Though Kumud Mishra gets some funny lines it’s the classic Mishra we’ve seen many-a-times now. Expected something new & meaty.

Tabu just plunders the space she’s in & enjoys a few of the best situational comedy scenes. Chunky Pandey shoots straight out of Housefull 4. He doesn’t even change the accent he carries from Aakhri Pasta.

Jawaani Jaaneman Movie Review: Direction, Music

Loved Nitin Kakkar’s utmost honest attempt with Notebook but Jawaani Jaaneman is a step up. Here, he gets to play around with the comicality around the drama. The dramatic portions stretch the already short pace (119 minutes) which makes you lose the grip on the film in between. Filmistaan, Notebook & now this – Nitin is mastering the skill of how to keep the cities as a different character in the film.

I went in with zero expectation with the songs and came out with at least two good songs. Yasser Desai’s Bandhu Tu Mera has a huge Tum Hi Ho Bandhu hangover and it might grow after this. I totally loved Harshdeep Kaur, Akhil Sachdeva’s Mere Baabula & it stayed with me even after the film.

Jawaani Jaaneman Movie Review: The Last Word

All said and done, Jawaani Jaaneman not only ensures making you laugh but also is backed by some heartwarming moments. An easy recommendation, go in without any expectation & you’ll like it more.

Three and a half stars!

On Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary, Sarva Dharma Prarthana to be held at Raj Ghat today

New Delhi: On the occasion of the 72nd death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Martyrs’ Day on Thursday, a ‘Sarva Dharma Prarthana’ (inter-faith prayer) will be held at Gandhi Samadhi at Rajghat here.

On Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary, Sarva Dharma Prarthana to be held at Raj Ghat today

Student unions and civil society groups have called for a demonstration against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act at Rajghat. Protestors will converge at Rajghat and form a human chain and later march towards other landmarks, including Shaheen Bagh and Khajuri Khas.

DCP Central Delhi stated that some organisations have applied for permission for the human chain in and around Rajghat. However, permission has been denied as this is not a traditional route for holding a protest march.

“Their permissions have been denied as it is not a traditional route, and informed to the organisers. Organisers have been requested to apply for designated places for such protests like Jantar Mantar, Ramlila ground etc,” read a post on the official Twitter handle of DCP Central Delhi.

Earlier on Monday, Left groups announced they will form a human chain today at Rajghat to display ‘solidarity with the Constitution, democracy, and secularism’. The initiative will be conducted under the banner of ‘Jan Ekta Jan Adhikar Andolan’.

Protests have been going on in different parts of the country against the amended citizenship Act which grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

On Mahatma Gandhi's death anniversary, Sarva Dharma Prarthana to be held at Raj Ghat today

On the occasion of Republic Day on January 26, Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan participated in a 620km long human chain organised by Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala demanding withdrawal of CAA. He said that the law is a “threat to secularism of this country.”

In Kolkata people from diverse backgrounds formed a human chain that extended from Ramkrishna Mission at Golpark to Netaji Statue at Shyambazar in order to “salute, safeguard and uphold the Constitution of India” on the occasion of the Republic Day. (ANI)

No voting in European Parliament on CAA: Sources

New Delhi: In a diplomatic win for India, there will be no voting in the European Parliament on the resolution on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on Thursday, government sources told ANI.

European Parliament is independent, sovereign in organisation of its work: EU mission on CAA resolution

A diplomatic victory for India

The voting in the Parliament was scheduled for Thursday on a five-page resolution. The resolution alleged that the CAA is not only “discriminatory” and “dangerously divisive” but also a “violation of India’s international obligations under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights”.

“In a diplomatic victory for India, there will be no voting on the EU resolution on CAA tomorrow. Friends of India prevailed over friends of Pakistan in the European Parliament today,” government sources said.

A Pakistan-origin Member of European Parliament (MEP) Shaffaq Mohammed is reportedly behind the draft resolution against the CAA. The sources said that Mohammed’s efforts to get the resolution passed were “defeated”.

CAA is a matter internal to India

“Strenuous efforts of outgoing British MEP Shaffaq Mohammed to get the resolution passed by the European Parliament against India on the penultimate day of Brexit was defeated,” the sources added.

“CAA is a matter internal to India and has been adopted through a due process through democratic means. We expect that our perspectives in this matter will be understood by all objective and fair-minded MEPs,” the sources added.

I stand with people of Shaheen Bagh, says Deputy CM Manish Sisodia

Although there has been no official reaction from the External Affairs Ministry on the resolutions, sources had earlier said that the CAA is an internal matter of India adopted through a democratic process after a public debate in both Houses of Parliament.

The sources had also called on those members of the European Parliament (MEPs), who intended to move the resolutions, to engage with the Indian government to get “full and accurate assessment of the facts before they proceed further”.

The amended Citizenship Act grants citizenship to Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, Buddhists and Christians fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014. (ANI)

Panga Box Office Collection Day 5 – Huge fall in Panga Collection

Kangana Ranaut’s latest release Panga is going good on Box Office and since the first day of its release there is continuous fall in the box office collection of Panga.

If you see the collection figures of Panga since day 1 it’s was not going up to the mark. On Friday the Panga first day Collection was just Rs. 2.70 Cr., Second day it was Rs. 5.61 Cr., third day was Rs. 6.60 Cr. And now on the 4th day it was just 1.65 Cr. In total Panga collected just Rs. 16.56 Cr. till Monday.

Trade analysts Taran Adarsh also twitted and shared the Box Office collection status, his tweet says #Panga dips on Day 4… Was important to hold at Day 1 levels for a respectable Week 1 total… Unable to improve its BO prospects beyond select metros… Weak in mass circuits… Fri 2.70 cr, Sat 5.61 cr, Sun 6.60 cr, Mon 1.65 cr. Total: ₹ 16.56 cr. #India biz”

It seems that there will be no chance that Panga will do come back on the Office and  this time Kangana fails to impress the audience. Day 5 of collection figures are yet to receive but as per yesterday’s occupancy report the collection will be the same and it going to fall again. We will update the exact figure in another post once the figures will come out.

SC order on Nirbhaya convict’s plea challenging mercy plea rejection today

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will on Wednesday pronounce its order on a petition filed by Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder convict — Mukesh Kumar Singh — challenging the rejection of his mercy petition by President Ram Nath Kovind.

A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice R Banumathi and also comprising Justice AS Bopanna and Justice Ashok Bhushan had heard the arguments in the matter on Tuesday and will pronounce its order at 10.30 am today.

Four people — Mukesh Kumar Singh, Pawan Kumar Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma, and Akshay Kumar Singh — are facing execution on February 1 in the matter.

Delhi: Convict in Nirbhaya case shifted to Tihar jail

Advocate Anjana Prakash, appearing on behalf of Mukesh, has alleged that her client was physically and sexually assaulted in Tihar jail and put under solitary confinement.

The counsel said that the “Presidential pardon is a Constitutional duty of great responsibility, which must be exercised keeping in mind greater good of the people”.

Court adjourns hearing in Nirbhaya rape case till Dec 18

“Solitary confinement and procedural lapses are the grounds for considering this case … Undue delay in hearing the petition and the due and prescribed procedure was not followed in this case,” advocate Anjana told the court.

She said that the documents were placed before the President of India without application of mind.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the Delhi government, said that even death convicts have to be treated fairly under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution but opposed the plea of the death row convict.

He highlighted that the trial court, Delhi High court, and the Supreme Court had awarded and upheld the death penalty to the convicts in the case while considering their medical condition.

The 23-year-old paramedical student was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus on December 16, 2012, by six people including a juvenile in Delhi. One of the accused, out of five adult accused, Ram Singh had committed suicide in the Tihar jail during the trial of the case. (ANI)

On being asked later about what made her emotional, Mirza said, “My day started really well yesterday (January 26)… At around 3 (early morning) this news alert came on my phone for a very big player, NBA player who I followed for a while.” She said referring to Kobe Bryant who died in a helicopter crash along with his daughter and seven others.

“His chopper crashing in California disturbed me. It really upset me. There are different things that upset us on different days, but we take care of ourselves. I was overwhelmed because my blood pressure was low,” she added.

Doctors successfully separate conjoined twins at AIIMS in Jodhpur

Doctors at AIIMS in Jodhpur successfully separated conjoined twins in an operation that went for over four hours.

“The twins were joined together at the chest and stomach. Both of them weighed close to three kilograms together, which brings the weight of each of them to around a kilo and a half. The ideal time for such operations is three to six months,” HOD, AIIMS Dr Arvind Sinha told reporters on Monday.

TWINS

“One of the kids, however, had heart, lungs and kidney complications and his chances of survival were really low,” he said.

“When such a situation arises, usually the life of the other child is also threatened. Therefore, we undertook the surgery, which went for over four hours and successfully separated the two on Sunday,” he further said.

Both the twins are on a ventilator and are under observation right now, according to the doctor.

Sinha also said that the treatment of the children was conducted free of cost as the family, coming from the lower strata of the society, was unable to pay for the same.

New Delhi: The election officer has asked for a report after Union Minister Anurag Thakur was caught on camera at an election rally in Delhi on Monday encouraging the crowd to say “goli maaro” – or gun down traitors.

In a widely-shared video, the minister, who was campaigning for the BJP candidate in North West Delhi, can be seen and heard chanting “desh ke gaddaron ko”, to which the crowd enthusiastically replied “goli maaro sa***n ko”; the entire chant translates to “shoot down the traitors who betray the country”.

A defiant Mr Thakur later told reporters: “First watch the entire video… The mood of the people of Delhi should also be analysed.”

Govt to sell 100% stake in Air India, issues bid document

The government has invited an Expression of Interest (EoI) from potential investors for buying 100 percent of Air India and its stake in two subsidiaries, significantly relaxing bidding norms in terms of debt and eligibility, in its latest attempt to privatise the debt-laden state-run airline.

Group of Ministers approves EOI for Air India divestment

The deadline for submission of EoI for 100 percent divestment in Air India and the airline’s stake in low-cost unit Air India Express and airport services company AISATS is March 17, according to a preliminary information memorandum issued on Monday.

Air India Express is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air India. The airline owns 50 percent of AISATS. Individuals and consortia can bid for the airline.

The government has struggled at least twice in the past two years to privatise loss-making Air India due to a lack of interest from bidders. One reason for the failure was that the government was unwilling to fully exit the airline, looking to sell only 76 percent stake.

The huge debts and bloated workforce too have proved to unattractive for potential bidders.

Now, the government has relaxed bidding norms to coax investors to buy the airline.

The bidding consortia will be saddled with only Rs 23,286 crore of the total Rs 60,000-crore debt of Air India. As for eligibility, the lead member of a consortium can have 26 percent shareholding. The earlier criterion set a holding of 51 percent in a consortium.

The minimum shareholding in a consortium has also been eased to 10 percent, potentially enabling more entities to bid as part of a consortium. The net worth for eligible bidders has been relaxed to Rs 3,500 crore from Rs 5,000 crore.

The government has been pumping money and hived off some debt to keep the airline aloft and ready for sale.
