Kanpur Encounter: Wanted UP gangster Vikas Dubey arrested in MP’s Ujjain

New Delhi: UP gangster Vikas Dubey, wanted in killing of 8 cops in Kanpur, arrested in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.

Vikas Dubey was going to Ujjain Mahakal temple when he was identified by security personnel. Police were informed, he confessed his identity after being pushed for it. He has been apprehended by police & interrogation is underway, said Ashish Singh, Ujjain Collector.

Home, Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Narottam Mishra said that police were put on alter after the Kanpur encounter.

Dubey –  charged in 60 criminal cases including murder, kidnapping, extortion and rioting was missing since Friday’s Kanpur encounter.

A massive hunt was launched to arrest him and the bounty on the gangster was doubled from 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh on Wednesday.

8 policemen killed 

Last week, eight policemen were ambushed and killed when 50 policemen from three stations went to Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur to arrest wanted gangster Vikas Dubey in an attempted murder case.

Who is Vikas Dubey?

The resident of Bikru village, where he keeps a private army, Vikas Dubey has a long history of crimes against him that even includes several murders.

According to the reports, Dubey had an alleged role in the murder of BJP politician and state minister Santosh Shukla in the area in 2001 but was acquitted in the case due to lack of enough evidence against him.

He was allegedly the murder of Siddheshwar Pandey, an Assistant Manager of Tarachand Inter College in Shivali police station area of Kanpur in 2000.

Dubey was also accused of the murder of cable businessman Dinesh Dubey in the year 2004.

He had joined the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and was elected as a member of the nagar panchayat and while lodged in the jail, he won the Shivrajpur Nagar Panchayat election.
